Mr Lister’s Quiz Shootout (£15 inc postage from Amazon) is an original quickfire quiz game which has something that most other quiz games don’t have the foresight to include – a moustache. Recommended for age 14+ and 3 – 8 players, it describes itself as a “Russian roulette trivia game but with brains for guns“.
The backstory is this. Mr Lister ran a saloon in the old West. Tired of getting his bar smashed up from fights, he devised another way to resolve differences – a quiz. Both players have to name a certain amount of possible answers from a given topic. The winner is the one who gets the most right and collects the question cards.
We ordered this for Jack as a Christmas present when he was twelve. Each player gets a pencil and a pad of paper. The person asking the questions (Mr Lister) also gets a tremendous moustache for their turn.
It took no time at all to get up and running. For each question, there are a number of obvious answers and a few more obscure ones. Getting an obscure, correct answer till get you straight through without having to answer any more questions. This made people gamble on trickier answers – a tactic that sometimes didn’t pay off. (Think of trying for a zero answer on Pointless.)
The game is recommended for 14+ but Jack held his own. It was a quick game, too. We managed to get three games played inside an hour.
The cards are good enough quality. The box looks great. There’s not really much more to the product than that!
It’s tremendous fun. I’d say that the more people playing it, the better it would be.
A definite thumbs up. A witty, smart game that’ll give your brain a work-out and a laugh.
